When Faith Feels Fragile: Finding God in Uncertainty
What if your doubts are the doorway to deeper trust?
I didn’t see it coming.
There I was—kneeling in church, doing all the “right things.” I was reading my Bible. I was praying. I was receiving the Eucharist. From the outside, everything looked like faith.
But inside, something had shifted. I couldn’t feel God. Not like I used to.
I would pray and feel like my words just bounced off the ceiling. I’d show up at Mass and feel like I was going through motions I didn’t fully believe.
It was disorienting. Embarrassing, even. I started asking myself: What’s wrong with me? Am I losing my faith?
Maybe you’ve been there too. Maybe you're in that season right now.
If you are, let me tell you what I wish someone had told me:
You’re not broken. You’re human. And God hasn’t left you.
Scripture-Based Reflection
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
— Mark 9:24 (NIV)
This is one of the most comforting verses in all of Scripture for me.
A father brings his suffering son to Jesus. He believes Jesus can help—but he’s not 100% sure. And instead of pretending to have perfect faith, he blurts out the truth: “I do believe... but I’m still struggling.”
And Jesus doesn’t rebuke him. He doesn’t say, “Come back when your faith is stronger.”
He meets him in his weakness.
That’s our God. He doesn’t require flawless faith—just honest faith.
