Introduction: From the Pool to the Crossroads

In John 5, Jesus moves from quiet signs to public confrontation. What begins as a healing at the Pool of Bethesda quickly becomes a bold declaration of divine identity. Jesus doesn’t just restore a paralyzed man—He reveals His authority to judge, give life, and execute divine justice.

This chapter becomes a turning point: the religious leaders are no longer just curious or skeptical—they are ready to kill Him. Why? Because Jesus doesn’t merely perform miracles. He makes Himself equal with God.

Verse-by-Verse Catholic Commentary
