Satan’s Favorite Lie: “I’ll Start Tomorrow
How Procrastination Became His Sharpest Tool—and What It’s Costing Us as Catholics
If Satan has a toolbox, one of the most worn, trusted tools he uses against us Catholics is labeled:
“I’ll start tomorrow.”
It sounds harmless. Even hopeful.
But it’s one of the most dangerous lies the enemy whispers into our hearts.
Because it delays obedience.
It silences urgency.
And eventually, it kills momentum.
And I’ll be honest—
This has been my greatest weakness.
The Spiritual Trap of Delay
I know what I should do:
Pray more intentionally.
Read Scripture daily.
Go to Confession regularly.
Love my wife with more patience.
Be fully present with my kids.
Show up for Mass with heart, not just habit.
But somehow, I don’t.
Why?
Because tomorrow feels safer. More comfortable. More convenient.
And Satan wants it that way.
Why We Don’t Do What We Know Is Right
1. Spiritual Warfare is Real
As St. Paul said in Romans 7:15, “I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.”
There’s a tug-of-war inside us. Satan doesn’t always push us toward sin—sometimes, he just lulls us to sleep.
2. Comfort Feels Easier Than Conversion
The devil doesn’t tempt us with chaos. He tempts us with comfort.
A warm blanket. A Netflix binge. The thought: “You’ve earned a break.”
3. Shame Makes Us Hide
Sometimes we delay because we feel unworthy.
“I’ve messed up too many times.”
That’s not conviction. That’s condemnation. And that’s not from God.
4. Fear of Change
We know God will change us if we truly surrender. But that transformation? It’s scary. So we stall.
“Today If You Hear His Voice…”
There’s a line in Hebrews that should wake us up like cold water to the face:
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 3:15)
Not tomorrow. Not next week.
Today.
Every “I’ll start tomorrow” is a missed opportunity to grow closer to Christ right now.
The enemy wins when we delay. He doesn’t need your rejection. Just your hesitation.
What We Can Do—Starting Today
If this struck a chord with you, don’t sit on it. Do something. Even something small:
1. Name the Pattern
Write it down. Be honest with yourself and with God: “This is where I’ve been stalling.”
2. Take One Small Step
Say a short prayer right now.
Open your Bible and read just one Psalm.
Send that apology text.
Schedule Confession today.
3. Remember the Cost
How many blessings, how much peace, how much growth has procrastination already stolen from you?
4. Pray This
“Lord, I want to do Your will today. Give me the courage to act now. I surrender my excuses and delays. Use me today.”
Start Today, Not Tomorrow
Satan doesn’t have to destroy you. He just has to distract you.
He doesn’t have to make you wicked. Just busy.
He doesn’t have to tempt you with rebellion. Just delay.
But God is calling now.
To pray.
To repent.
To love.
To live on mission.
Let’s not give the enemy another win.
Let’s stop letting tomorrow steal today.
