Matthew 8 is where the Gospel shifts gears. For three chapters, Jesus has been speaking with an authority that left crowds astonished. Now He acts with that same authority, and the results are just as staggering. In a single chapter, we watch Him heal a leper, restore a paralyzed servant from a distance, calm a violent storm, and drive out a legion of demons. What Matthew wants us to see is not just a compassionate miracle worker. He wants us to see God in the flesh, sovereign over every kind of brokenness the world can throw at us.

“Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” (Matthew 8:2-3)
