Letting Go When Life Feels Out of Control

Have you ever felt like everything was slipping through your fingers?

I have. And I don’t mean the everyday stress—I’m talking about those moments when the world tilts sideways. The diagnosis. The lost job. The child you can’t seem to reach.
The plans that felt so right but now seem completely shattered.

When that happens, my first instinct is to grab tighter. To fix it. Control it. Pray harder, work faster, micromanage the chaos until I feel safe again.

But somewhere along the way, I realized: The peace I was chasing wasn’t in doing more. It was in letting go.

Now, let’s be clear—surrender isn’t giving up. It’s giving in. Giving in to a God who is bigger than your fear, wiser than your timeline, and far more faithful than your feelings.

Scripture Meditation

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT):
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Luke 9:23 (NIV):
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 23:46 (NABRE):
“Into your hands I commit my spirit.”

Let that last one sink in. Even Jesus had to let go.
