I Am the Resurrection and the Life – A Catholic Reflection on John 11:1–57
From Tears to Triumph – Jesus Conquers the Grave
📖 Introduction: Grief, Glory, and God’s Timing
John 11 tells the powerful story of the raising of Lazarus—a miracle that is both deeply human and unmistakably divine. Jesus weeps with His friends, confronts death face-to-face, and reveals His identity as the Resurrection and the Life. This event, which prefigures His own resurrection, becomes the catalyst for the final confrontation between Jesus and the religious leaders.
This chapter invites us to trust in God’s timing, power, and compassion, even when we don’t understand the delay or the suffering.
🔍 Verse-by-Verse Catholic Commentary
11:1–6
“Lord, the one you love is sick.”
Jesus delays, not out of neglect, but to glorify God. Divine timing often challenges human urgency. Trust requires waiting (CCC 2730).
11:7–16
“Let us go to him.”
Despite danger, Jesus returns to Judea. Thomas’ words—often misunderstood—show courageous loyalty: “Let us also go to die with Him.”
