Do You Believe in Life After Delivery?
A Womb-Side Conversation That Echoes the Questions of Our Souls
One of the most powerful analogies I’ve ever heard takes place in the quietest of places—inside a mother’s womb. Two unborn babies have a conversation. What unfolds is more than imagination—it’s a mirror into the human heart, the mystery of life, and our faith in the unseen.
In their exchange, the first baby scoffs at the idea of life after delivery. “It’s absurd,” he argues. “We have everything we need right here. The umbilical cord gives us life. There’s nothing beyond this.”
But the second baby dares to hope. “What if there’s more?” he asks. “What if this is just the beginning, and we’re preparing for something greater—something we can’t even fully understand yet?”
And then comes the heart of it all:
“If there’s something after this, we’ll meet Mom.”
“Mom?” the first scoffs. “If she exists, where is she?”
“She’s all around us,” the second replies. “Sometimes, if you're quiet and really listen… you can hear her.”
This short parable is more than poetic—it’s deeply theological. It speaks to the tension we all experience between skepticism and faith, between what we see and what we hope for. It speaks to the God we cannot see, yet feel. And it speaks to the truth that what we call life might actually just be the womb—the beginning of eternity.
Living With Eternal Perspective
This story invites us to reflect on how we live our lives. Are we the first baby, clinging only to what we can see and explain? Or are we the second, willing to believe in a world beyond this one?
Here are three ways to apply this truth:
1. Cultivate Holy Curiosity
Just like the second baby, allow yourself to be curious about the eternal. Don’t be afraid to ask the deeper questions. Faith doesn’t mean ignoring logic—it means trusting in a logic greater than our own.
“Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1
2. Listen in the Silence
The second baby says, “If you're quiet and really listen, you can hear her.” The same goes for our relationship with God. In silence, prayer, and stillness, we begin to notice His presence all around us. Not in thunder—but in a whisper.
“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
3. Live Like This Isn't the End
When we believe that this life is just the beginning, we start to live differently. We focus more on love than on success. We let go of fear, because we trust there’s more ahead. We prepare not for retirement—but for eternity.
Just like a baby in the womb can’t comprehend the beauty of a sunrise, the taste of chocolate, or the sound of music—neither can we fully comprehend the joy that awaits us. But just because we can't see it doesn't mean it isn’t real.
So yes—I believe in life after delivery.
And more than that—I believe in the One who holds us in the womb of this world.
