Setting: The moon is high now. They have not moved from beneath the olive tree. A fire crackles nearby. The air is cooler. The conversation turns weightier.
Socrates (gazing at the stars):
I’ve always believed the soul to be immortal. The body decays, but the soul—no, the soul is divine. Reason itself tells me that we are more than flesh.
Jesus:
You are right. The soul does not perish with the body. But not all immortal souls rest in the same end.
Socrates (turns slowly to Jesus):
Then what becomes of the soul, if not dissolution? Is it not enough that it continues?
