Dialogue Nine: Love and Relationship
Setting: The sun is rising. Light spills over the hill. The long night of questioning is nearing its end—but this, right here, is the center of it all.
Socrates (gazing into the light):
Love is the soul’s longing for what is eternal. That’s what I taught. Eros drives man upward—toward beauty, truth, the divine. We love what we lack. We desire what we are not yet.
Jesus:
But I am Love. And I lack nothing. Still, I came for you.
Socrates (turning slowly):
Then your love is not desire?
Jesus:
No. It is sacrifice. I do not love you because I need you. I love you because you need Me.
Socrates (with honest awe):
That is foreign to the philosophers. We ascend through love. You descend in it.
