Day 31: The Ascension of Jesus
Living in Hope and Mission
Scripture Reading: Acts 1:6-11
"After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. 'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!'" (Acts 1:9-11, NLT)
Reflection: The Promise of His Return
The ascension of Jesus marks the conclusion of His earthly ministry and the beginning of a new chapter for His disciples. As Jesus is taken up into heaven, He entrusts His followers with the mission to be His witnesses “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The promise of His return offers hope and assurance as they begin this mission.
The ascension reminds us that Jesus reigns as King and intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father. It also challenges us to live with purpose, carrying out His mission while looking forward to His glorious return. The angels’ question to the disciples—“Why are you standing here staring into heaven?”—urges us to move from contemplation to action, living as faithful witnesses to the Gospel.
Personal Reflection:
The ascension challenges me to live with a balance of hope and urgency. It’s easy to become so focused on waiting for Jesus’ return that I forget the mission He has entrusted to me. Reflecting on this passage reminds me to rely on the Holy Spirit and to actively share His love, knowing that my work has eternal significance.

Focus on the Mission: Jesus entrusted His disciples with the task of spreading the Gospel. Look for ways to share His love and truth in your daily life.
Live with Expectation: The promise of Jesus’ return inspires us to live with hope and purpose. Let this hope shape your decisions and priorities.
Rely on the Holy Spirit: Before ascending, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to empower His followers. Seek the Spirit’s guidance and strength as you carry out His mission.
Stay Grounded in Prayer and Worship: As we await Jesus’ return, deepen your relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and Scripture.

Consider how you can actively participate in Jesus’ mission this week. Whether through serving others, sharing your faith, or supporting a ministry, take one concrete step to live out His call.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the hope of Your return and for entrusting me with Your mission. Help me to live with purpose, spreading Your love and truth wherever I go. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, and give me the strength to be Your faithful witness. May my life reflect the hope and joy of Your Kingdom. Amen.
