Scripture Reading: Luke 22:14-20
"He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, 'This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.'" (Luke 22:19, NLT)
Reflection: The Gift of the Eucharist
The Last Supper is one of the most significant moments in Jesus’ ministry. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus gathers with His disciples to celebrate the Passover meal. During the meal, He institutes the Eucharist, giving them bread and wine as His body and blood, a new covenant of love and sacrifice.
This moment reveals Jesus’ profound love for His disciples and for all humanity. The Eucharist is not just a symbol but a living reality in which we partake of Jesus’ sacrifice and receive His grace. When Jesus says, “Do this in remembrance of me,” He calls us to remember His love, His suffering, and His victory every time we come to the altar.
Personal Reflection:
The Last Supper always reminds me of the depth of Jesus’ love. When I receive the Eucharist, I’m humbled by the realization that He gave everything for me. It challenges me to live with greater gratitude and to let His love flow through me to others. This passage invites me to approach the altar with reverence and to let the grace of the Eucharist transform my heart and my life.
Application: Living the Eucharist Daily
The Last Supper invites us to reflect on the meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice and how it transforms our lives. Here are practical ways to live out this teaching:
Receive the Eucharist with Reverence: Approach Holy Communion with a heart full of gratitude and humility. Take time to prepare through prayer and reflection on Jesus’ sacrifice.
Remember His Sacrifice Daily: Make time each day to reflect on Jesus’ love and the price He paid for your salvation. Let this remembrance guide your decisions and actions.
Live a Life of Gratitude: Jesus’ self-giving love calls us to live with gratitude and generosity. Look for ways to serve others and share the love you have received.
Be a Witness to His Love: Just as the disciples were sent out to share the Gospel, let the grace of the Eucharist inspire you to be a witness to Jesus in your words and actions.
Action Step:
If possible, attend Mass this week and receive the Eucharist with a heart of gratitude. Take time afterward to reflect on what Jesus’ sacrifice means to you and how it inspires you to live out your faith.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of the Eucharist, through which You give Your very self to us. Help me to approach the altar with a heart full of gratitude and to remember Your sacrifice daily. Teach me to live in a way that honors Your love and to share that love with those around me. May Your grace transform my heart and draw me closer to You. Amen.
