Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:33
"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." (Matthew 6:33, NLT)
Reflection: Putting God First
Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:33 come as part of His teaching on worry and trust. He encourages His listeners not to be anxious about their daily needs—what they will eat, drink, or wear—but to trust in God’s provision. Instead of focusing on material concerns, Jesus calls us to prioritize seeking God’s Kingdom and righteousness. When we align our lives with His purposes, everything else will fall into place.
Seeking the Kingdom of God means making Him the center of our lives. It’s not about neglecting our responsibilities but about trusting that when God is first, He provides for our needs. This verse invites us to shift our focus from the temporary to the eternal, from self-reliance to dependence on God.
Personal Reflection:
There have been times in my life when I’ve been consumed by worry—whether about finances, work, or family. This verse challenges me to pause and ask, “Am I seeking God first, or am I relying on my own efforts?” When I choose to put God at the center, I find peace, knowing that He is in control. It’s not always easy to let go of anxiety, but each time I do, I’m reminded of His faithfulness and care.
Application: Living with Kingdom Priorities
To seek God’s Kingdom first, we must actively prioritize Him in our thoughts, decisions, and actions. Here are practical ways to live this out:
Start Your Day with God: Begin each day with prayer and Scripture. This helps you set your heart and mind on God before the busyness of life takes over.
Align Your Goals with God’s Will: Reflect on your goals and priorities. Are they focused on building God’s Kingdom, or are they centered on personal gain? Adjust your plans to align with His purposes.
Trust in God’s Provision: When worry creeps in, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness. Take your concerns to Him in prayer, and trust that He will meet your needs.
Live Righteously: Seek to live in a way that reflects God’s character. Pursue integrity, kindness, and love in all your interactions.
Action Step:
Take a few moments to write down your top three priorities. Then, prayerfully consider how you can align them with God’s Kingdom. Make one intentional change this week to put Him first in your decisions.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to provide for all my needs. Help me to seek Your Kingdom above all else and to trust in Your perfect plan. Teach me to live righteously and to align my heart with Yours. May my life reflect Your glory and bring others closer to You. Amen.
