There’s something sacred—and hard—about waiting.
David knew he was chosen by God, anointed by the prophet, filled with promise. But his life didn’t suddenly snap into glory. Instead, it fell into hiding, betrayal, and waiting.
Have you ever felt like that? Like you know God has more for you, but for now, you’re stuck in the “not yet”?
Then the second half of 1 Samuel is your story too.
Themes That Speak to Our Hearts
1. Being Chosen Doesn’t Mean It’ll Be Easy
David was chosen—but life got harder, not easier. Saul turned against him. He ran for his life. He hid in caves. And still, David waited. Not passively, but faithfully.
You might feel called to something—ministry, leadership, healing—but the door hasn’t opened yet. Or worse, the ones that did opened into hardship.
But like David, you’re not forgotten. You’re being formed.
2. Obedience Is Greater Than Opportunity
Twice David had the chance to kill Saul, the man hunting him down. Twice he chose mercy over ambition. He trusted God to raise him up instead of taking matters into his own hands.
In a culture that tells you to grab what you can, David reminds you to trust God’s timing. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Wait on the Lord.
